ABOUT THE ARTWORK

On the picture “Lighthouse”, the artist depicts a tower with rotating wings. By being a reliable reference point, the lighthouse is a guiding star which is lit up in the night and indicate a true way to those who are astray. The author melted together two images, namely, of the lighthouse and of the mill in order to strengthen visually their symbolic meaning. Upon expecting the salvation and reaching serene shores, man has not only to play the role of passive actor; he ought to be switched into motion. This is reflected in the rotation of wind wings, the air flow of which clears up a small island of heavenly blueness in the clouded reddish sky. The metaphorical meaning of the lighthouse is man himself who is shining in the darkness. According to the author’s design, this is Man’s highest purpose.

Alexey Klokov's perception of the world of art and the trajectory of his life in it were formed due to Anatoly Zverev who carried along young Alexey into the world of avant-garde combining all the palette of genres and styles. Alexey Klokov has got professional education in 1986-1991, already after the death of his genial mentor, in a Leningrad Higher School of Art and Industry. The two-year probation in restoration workshops in Hermitage and Tretyakov Gallery became a momentous period when he was lucky to be literally in touch with the greatest masterpieces of Picasso, Matisse, Gauguin, Renoir, Van Gogh, Malevich, Kandinsky and others, learning from them "without words". Upon finishing the probation, Alexey made an unexpected choice and settled down in an orthodox monastery where during four years he learned the secrets of gilding and drawing by cognizing from inside not only the matter of iconography but also the deepest power of Divine providence embodied in the image. Since 1998 Alexey Klokov began to create his own style based on his philosophical thoughts and synthesis of impressionism, fauvism, cubism, expressionism, and abstractionism. With the experience of a restorer, he skillfully applies in his art gold leaf, antique objects, coins and gold. He had 25 personal exhibitions, worked in Japan and United Kingdom. In 2011 he came back to Russia and joined the Creative Union of Russian Artists. During his life created more than 4,000 artworks.
