Throughout this piece tiny men dressed in bizarre dress wear are piled upon each other desperately seeking her attention. However, she stoically ignores them and looks to the viewer, breaking a theoretical fourth wall. Behind her, an abstract couple wait for her. Will she pick her match? Does she need to pick her match? What is expected out of her? The wallpaper behind her appears too close and little tendrils of its vines have begun to wrap themselves around her. However, piled on the table in front of her and spreading up her arm is abstraction. This is a transition piece of the series--a step away from the minutely painted details and environment which seems to trap her. Painting is varnished and framed in a black floater frame with delicate golden detailing. Hanging hardware is installed.

Katrose Woodward (b. 1995) is an American figurative artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. She is a graduate of Parsons: The New School of Design in NYC, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Woodward’s work is characterized by a highly detailed and narrative approach to portraiture, as well as a strong interest in the intersection of identity and history. Her paintings primarily feature women and seek to explore their experiences in a way that is both deeply personal and socially relevant. Having grown up in close proximity to Los Angeles, the city’s emphasis on storytelling through cinematography and animation heavily impacted her artistic development. Throughout Woodward’s works, stories of the present and past are hidden. Her work is driven by the desire to celebrate women’s stories, highlighting outdated notions of female fragility and exploring methods in which to lift women up. After the completion of a painting, she then often creates an animation of the piece to further bring to life its story and movement. She has exhibited internationally and domestically in group shows including Royal Society for Miniature Painters, Sculptors, and Engravers in London, England, The National Arts Club in NYC, and The Heliotrope Foundation online. Her work is held in a number of private collections.
