"Platform i" Painting

Ross Andrews is an Australian painter who was born in Africa and grew up on four continents. "Each painting is an idea that comes from the places I like to explore - often the Sapphire Coast and Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, or the hills around Canberra, and sometimes out west," Ross says. "I get the idea down on the spot, or in the studio, in any of the aqueous media and conte. "My viewpoint can be downward like cartography. Or it can crop down to the objects in the middle-ground. "Just as often, what I explore is the alchemy of paint - bringing out the textures, colours and patterns of the foreground - the bits of landscape that are most alive, moving, brilliant. "I also look for spatial planes that I can move around, tilting and collapsing perspective. "My aim is to create a lyrical description of the landscape ... passages that flicker between an abstraction of infinitesimal minuteness at one moment, and infinitudinal vastness at the next."
