ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is my first painting in 17 years. It started a series of portraits of cats. The subjects are mostly cats that I know well, portraying them according to their personalities and particularities. Most of the paintings from this series are quite small. This one is 15cm x15cm. Ploy, the cat portrayed in this piece is my ex-girlfriend's cat. He's got very big green eyes, and even though he's ten years old he still looks like a baby cat. He was my first muse, being the subject of many of my paintings. The canvas is mounted on a wood frame.

I'm fascinated by the still, silent and lonely act of painting in an era when photography is so accessible and time seems to go by so fast . I'm always experimenting with new techniques and subjects. So far I've worked with woodcuts, acrylic and oil paintings, and ceramics. As far as painting, I enjoy making portraits of the cats that surround me, and of strong and inspiring women. I was born and raised in Florianópolis, an island in the south of Brazil, where I still live.
