About The Artwork

Fascinating position in Plymouth Sound, halfway across the Sound between Devon and Cornwall, very strategic to cause concern to potential aggressive wooden warships who may have to tack around the structure thus leaving them open to cannons from forts on both sides. The original was built in 1769 and is known to this day as Smeaton's Tower after its designer John Smeaton. Maritime history on my doorstep as well as beautiful scenery. Simple but effective rendering of oils with knives and brush on canvas panel. Hope you get the same feeling as I when I painted it.
