Portrait in oil of the legendary mathematician and computer scientist Alan Turing. Turing is probably most famous for his work as a codebreaker at Bletchley Park during World War 2, but his genius was broad and his work was groundbreaking throughout his life. Tragically, Turing then took his own life in 1954 after being viciously punished by the British state for 'homosexual acts'. I produced this work from a black and white photograph as part of a series of figures connected to the city of Cambridge, my hometown. The painting is on canvas board rather stretched over a wooden frame, meaning it is thinner and can be placed in the average shop-bought frame and doesn't necessarily need a professional fitting.
