About The Artwork

I make portraits of people that have influenced me and John Lennon was one of the most influential. How to depict him became the question and solution. From a teenage photo well before the Beatles he had a punk hard attitude. Street fighter kind of guy. So I stayed mostly to black white and blue. Three key elements stand out besides his "attitude." The red eyes indicate a flash photo. Also a little of the devil. The snake that is about to bite his ear represents the blues music from the South and the scrim overlay with an outline of him on it was the drawing that began the painting and now covers it. Layering, suggesting he was much more than what met his celebrity image. More complex and more simple. Lennon conveyed a transparency of his soul at times. Helped us see more clearly when we needed some guidance.
