Pound Lane is to me a place so familiar that it is etched into my subconscious mind. In the village in which I grew up I have walked along it too many times to count .... from running hill reps as a teenager with my lovely protective Papa walking the dog nearby to keep me safe, to pushing my own babies in their prams to help them sleep, going on daily "covid" walks and now, aged (almost) 41, back to the hill reps to try to shave a couple of seconds off my Saturday parkrun time (still yet to happen). My work uses abstract mark making techniques to explore the dreamlike feelings evoked by snapshots of landscapes. Their dreamlike and abstract nature suggesting they may be from a parallel universe, my own subconscious or memory. This work was painted in 2 stages - first in a very quick and expressive underlayer and then finally completed when I came back to it months later, using blended oil paints to create more depth and atmosphere. My hope is always for my paintings to create a sense of calm and contemplation for the viewer.
