Throughout its history, art has always served as entertainment for the rich. Starting from ancient times, when amophras and gold dishes were made exclusively for emperors and rich nobles, ending with modern art, when we are ready not to eat a piece of bread once again, let’s just buy that panel on the wall. Art, and especially paintings, has always been, is and will be a luxury item and a servant of money. However, he still has a social consciousness. Art is designed to show what it is, another life, the one that is outside your front door and field of vision. Pictures tell us how other people, strangers to us, can live and live. The heroes of the paintings are always so different, each has its own destiny and its own problems. Often, such genre paintings make the viewer of any era think about the fact that you need to value what you have and not take your wealth for granted. We have just such an example. The canvas depicts a young Italian woman who abruptly stands out from the poor environment of her tiny room with her stout body, milky skin and shiny thick hair. How did she get here? Why is he sighing so hard and clenching his hands? Her ankles are swollen, she is clearly not comfortable sitting in expensive shoes, which are a reminder of her past life, because they look expensive. She is not used to walking for a long time, but she must, the bag on her chair hints to us that charity is now her only way out. Why is all this happening to her? How did she come to this life? Perhaps the fault is the husband, whose gold ring she wears on her finger, as if reminding. Perhaps they were both victims of deception. We will never know this, but we understand that it is possible in just one moment to lose all our usual life and remain at a broken trough. Art helps us to look at things from a different angle, to indulge our vanity by showing life much worse than ours. But art also serves as a reminder to us that nothing is eternal. Based on the work Jean - Baptiste Greuze "Poverty (Spoiled italia)"
