SYN (Soulful Young Negro) was born and raised in Atlanta, GA, where he still resides. Growing up, he was encouraged by both his parents to explore the arts. He played the saxophone starting at age 9 and excelled to first chair by the age of 11. However, his creative interest would soon gravitate to poetry and drawing. Both would prove to be the perfect outlets for SYN to express his emotions and social views. SYN’s artwork is both raw and powerful. Using black India ink as his primary medium, the images in his paintings appear to be emerging from the shadows of darkness forcing you to focus on the subject while still setting a dark tone for the piece.
