About The Artwork

It has been over a year since the pandemic began. For me, I process my emotions through images and sometimes it is the juxtaposition of images that best tells my story. “Primavera” by Sandro Botticelli (1470s-Renaissance) was my neighbor for many years. It hangs at the Uffizi in Florence and I would visit it often. There is a lot going on in painting however lately, I haven’t been able to get Chloris out of my mind. Zephyrus, the wind of March, kidnaps and possesses the nymph Chloris. After they get married (…because, I guess that’s is what you do when you get kidnapped??) she transforms into a deity. She becomes the goddess of Spring. In “Primavera” Botticelli paints her with plants growing from her mouth. This image is juxtaposed with an image of me wearing a mask at the doctor’s office earlier this year. I am holding up my phone to take a rather depressing selfie in the bathroom mirror. #primavera #botticelli #uffizi #covid_19 #pandemiclife
