ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I observed these puffins on the Shetland Islands. The painting was created a few months later from my photographic notes in the studio. The seabirds with their bright orange beaks and black and white plumage are sitting on a light green-ochre grassy area, next to them the muted pink of faded sea carnations. The gray sea shimmers to the left of the picture. The oil paint has been applied vividly and expressively with palette knives to emphasize the structures of the plumage and vegetation. The painting appears peaceful and powerful. The birds with their colorful contrasting appearance evoke a slight smile. The canvas is hand-stretched and primed four times. The picture is hung on a steel cable. The edges are painted. The picture can be hung without framing. The signature is on the front.

In my abstract work, everyday experiences serve as the foundation. I utilize a variety of mediums, including oil on canvas or wood, pen and ink wash drawings, and watercolors.
