About The Artwork
Saint-Paul-de-Vence has an extraordinary history as a home to many artists. Calder and Chagall were part of this community. Once, as a young artist, I went to encounter Chagall, and although I did not meet him in person, I talked with him for 5 minutes through the intercom of his house. Five minutes is short but, at 18 years old when you speak with Chagall, it is a beautiful eternity. The sound of his gentle voice is still in my head and it inspired me to create this painting.
