About The Artwork
Framed dimension: 17x 13.5x 1inch watercolor, gouache, fabric, sequin on paper. The transformative power of storytelling has been a long-held interest of mine since my childhood, which I spent drawing and writing storybooks. I visualize the images of dreams, nightmares, myths, fairytales and fantasies that are closely linked to subconsciousness and animalistic instincts of humans as a part of nature. Meanwhile, I aim to decode and examine the complicated relationships between culture, society and human nature, through visually multi-layered narratives.

Korean-born visual artist Suyeon Na received a BFA from Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea and a MFA from Pratt Institute in New York, U.S.A. Na has nationally and internationally exhibited her works in many venues in the US, Korea, Japan, and India, including the Chashama Gallery, AHA Fine arts, Rush Arts Gallery in New York, Hangaram Art Museum in Korea, Studio Kura in Japan, and Jawahar Kala Kendra Arts Center in India. Her works are held in many private and public collections, including the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at Oregon, U.S. Her works display a broad range of styles and images, but their common theme lies in representing the problems of psychological and sociocultural adaptation and the issues of gender and race.
