ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting represents a corner of a wild seashore on a cloudy summer day. I was impressed by the atmosphere so peaceful and calm without any strong sounds, as the sea was very calm and without vivid colors, as the sun was hidden behind the clouds. In fact, the shore presented itself with very few colors, in subtle nuances of light ochre, grey and green. The only contrast was between the green vegetation, the yellow/ochre sand and rocks, and the desaturated blue of the sea. It was like a pastel work of art. I spent almost an hour just sitting there and filling my senses with this serene atmosphere provided by the lightness and delicacy of colors and sounds. I painted this artwork with oil colors, mixed with fine medium and turpentine, using a palette knife, for better reproducing the density of the soil, the random display of sand scattered among the lime rocks and bushes. The artwork is not framed, as it is painted on all edges, as well. Still, it can be framed by demand for a small additional fee.

Hello, My name is Gabriela Anitei, I’m 65 years old, born and living in Bucharest, Romania. I am a professional painter, graduated of The Fine Arts Academy in Bucharest in 1984. From that moment on I started to participate to various exhibitions, workshops, and periodically I presented my works in one man show exhibitions in my country. I am also professor, teaching children painting, drawing and art history notions. I create paintings and graphics in my late father’s studio, this being the place in which I have learned and developed the passion for colors, for the artistic world and where I have learned how to become a professional painter, under the attentive guidance of my father. I live modestly, but somehow in the sense defined by the journalist and poet Christopher Morley. Quote: 'There is only one success: to be able to spend your life in your own way.' So yes,I spend my free time trying to load my soul and my studio with all the richness of images, feelings and ideas that I can steal from this wonderful Nature that STILL surrounds us. In my artistic world I read a lot, I listen a lot more to various kinds of music, but mostly classical, especially when I’m working. Thus, my thoughts and feelings which emerge during these occupations, are the ones to be found explicit or just suggested in my works. Also, the pleasure experienced every time I am in the midst of Nature, far from the crowds and urban noises, is completed by the pleasure - even the need – of photographing everything that impresses me and leads me towards meditation. So that, when I return to my studio I surprisingly find myself painting and reproducing more my state of mind and feelings experienced before the subject, then the subject itself.
