About The Artwork
Parrotfish are important to coral reef ecosystems. They munch algae off the coral keeping it healthy and alive. Parrotfish eat and digest this coral algae and turn it into soft white sand by excreting it and that helps create beaches. These wonderful parrotfish spend all day munching and making sand, and in fact they produce up to 2,200 pounds (1 metric ton) of sand per year (per parrotfish:). Thanks to the parrotfish and other fish like it we have lots of beautiful white sandy beaches. I hope my Rainbow Parrotfish art inspires viewers to care about ocean reef life.
