About The Artwork

Like many people I love a good espresso. I have an espresso maker in my studios. Every morning the beans are the first thing I come into contact with. They are the beginning of the ritual. First they are ground into a fine powder. They are the raw fuel. I begin my day the same way every day. The power of this ritual in turn feeds my creativity. This painting is done on canvas in professional quality oil paints. I've used mixtures of burnt sienna, Indian red and Venice red to try and capture the richness of colour in the coffee beans. It was a difficult task. The light is forever changing and the depth of the richness of the beans and the resulting painting are incredible. I have left the initial charcoal drawing showing in some areas to add to the energy and expression of this painting. The photograph doesn't do the work justice. Depending on the lighting in the room the colours change just like the beans do in real life. Reds and browns dance before the eye! You will not be sorry if you decide to purchase this work.

Stewart Fletcher’s paintings, drawings and works on paper have been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions over the past forty years. His paintings, drawings and works on paper are part of several private international collections in over 20 countries and in 36 American States. Known for his fascination with the human body, Fletcher explores various concepts beyond the representational image. The great equalizer he believes is when one's clothing is removed. All identifiers and societal statuses disappear and the real person appears. Fletcher does not believe that his work is erotic, however some people do because of their social, religious and regional upbringing. He often uses humour and satire to convey his views on the world around him..
