About The Artwork
Red Poppies is about a girl from Afghanistan. She stands in an opium field and spends her days picking poppies. The book she holds in her hands symbolizes that every child has the right to education. This is the second painting from the 'I AM' series. This series consists of fifteen children's portraits. Each painting is based on a contemporary photo, placing children from different countries in a colourful world that contrasts sharply with reality. Each portrait symbolizes one of the rights of the child. The first three portraits are about three young girls. All three are set against a colourful flowery background. At first glance, they look like brightly coloured paintings, where each girl looks at you with an uninhibited and innocent look.
