This piece is part of a series that explores multicolored refractions of light on water through the prism of geometry. This painting works well hanging either vertically or horizontally. Features thick encaustic paint in varying surfaces from thick textured brushstrokes to glassy smoothness. The raw wood sections are covered with a thin layer of wax. Encaustic paint is made from a mixture of beeswax, damar resin and pigment which is heated and applied in a molten state which hardens as it cools. The surface is richly textured and often the colors have a lot of depth to them due to the transparency of the wax. Encaustic paintings are very durable, examples of early encaustic paintings date back to ancient Egypt. However they are sensitive to extreme temperature and like all paintings should not be hung in direct sunlight, or allowed to freeze.

Artist Statement: I create bold, abstract, geometric paintings in encaustic and painted collage. In my work, I use the logic and formality of geometry as a framework to stir associations, ideas, and memories from the realms of the physical and non-physical. My process is intuitive, combining chance with careful decision-making to create balance and harmony with color and form. The play of light and movement are recurring themes. The resulting images are a visual language designed to spark the imagination and be freely interpreted by the viewer.
