This is a day of the dead "ofrenda" painting honoring the great Mazatec shaman, Maria Sabina. The dog is an ancient Mexican hairless dog called a xoloitzcuintle and is a guide into the afterlife. She was known for doing "limpias" (cleansings) and used Psilocybe mexicana, a type of mushroom to induce hallucinations to help cure people. I chose this medium & style because I like story telling and creating contemporary myths. I hope that people will reflect on the transformation of life and death and see the glory of being human in this painting.

I am a contemporary myth painter who paints from the realm of nepantla. Nepantla is a 16th century Nahua word, that literally means "in the middle of things." All my archetypes are in the middle of something and are in the process of changing and becoming. Each painting represents a step toward evolution from conflict to peace. #spiritual art #nepantlic art #spiritualfeminism
