ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inspired by my abstract studies of classical art, in this case "Rest on the Flight to Egypt" by Van Dyke. I use the old master work as a starting point for composition but then begin to understand that composition as an abstraction and, as the work develops, I "discover" the figures and how they interrelate with one another. I discover the colors and their profound variations. I discover the lines and how their poetry carries the eye. I end up with my own "comment" on this masterpiece which then becomes my own statement. Note: this is an oil painting on a wood panel. Thickness is only .25 inch. currently unframed but I can frame it for same price without additional cost to buyer but this might alter the shipping price for weight of the frame.
