River Boats and Magic Moments Painting

I think of some of my paintings as "narrative abstractions". To me this one, though its strong blues and greens bursting through imposing dark shapes makes me think of ships plying their trade on the major rivers of the world. When I was young, growing up in farm country in Ohio, I dreamed of getting a job on a working river boat, but my applications always led to the "we don't hire girls" response. The next best thing was creating an imaginary world where I could roam as I wish and to visualize that world through painting. I love using cold wax medium because of the layering properties and effects that can be achieved. Mine is not the only story that fits "River Boats and Magic Moments". I'm hopeful you'll be inspired to contribute yours. I have painted the four edges to extend the central image so no framing is necessary. The technique of painting the edges in this manner heightens the properties of depth.
