Ruby Ridge Painting

This painting was created in the early months of 2022 in Santa Barbara, CA. This body of work explores my immediate emotional reaction to the wild places and grand vistas of the western United States. These paintings were part of my solo show, Visceral Views, which ran May 5 – 28th, 2022 at LAURA VINCENT DESIGN & GALLERY in Portland, OR. I created this painting using a mixture of oil paint and wax on a sealed and gessoed wood panel. My paintings are created without the use of brushes. Instead, I paint with squeegees, brayers and by applying paint to papers which is then transferred onto the panel. I utilize other drawing materials and tools throughout the process, melding the drawing, mark-making process with painting. The finished painting is created through many layers and often take months to finish. The process of layering, scraping and digging back through those layers gives the painting incredible history that is brought up to the surface in part due to the wax mixture itself. The painting tells a story through the individual movements of my hands, color choices and mood of the finished work. These pieces are a joyful mix of planning and letting go until the final work is brought together in harmony or intended discord. The work is signed and titled on the back. Hanging hardware is included. Painting is sold unframed. I recommend a simple floater frame if you decide to frame the work.
