About The Artwork
This painting deals with the joy of seeing the ocean after climbing cliffs and dunes. The strong contrast of the dark blue shape with the soft sea blue is meant to evoke the startling beauty when a vast body of water comes into view. It is painted with oil paints in cold wax medium over clapboard. All of these materials are chosen for their properties which allow the build up of multiple layers, the creation of transparencies and the ability to scratch back in to reveal under colors. The edges are painted to extend the central image so the painting is ready for hanging. No framing is necessary.
