i find that i am constantly fascinated at the way the fog rolls into the city every afternoon in the summer like clock work. the breeze would pick up and suddenly, the clear sky would begin to change. people begin to pull on the sweater they have handy. the sound, the smell, the air and our sight changes to adjust to the fog surrounding us. each time it would be different, yet i can't tear my eyes away from the experience.
this hide and reveal is similar to the persona we each present to the world, depending on whom as well. not one person sees the same us. nor do we of others.
it's an enigma.
in number 3 of my study, i am using more of a collage method for my "under paint" i'm combining my re-purpose of plastic or paper wrapper in a leaf/ flower pattern underneath the encaustics layers (layers of beeswax), which is mixed with white pigments. then i get to cut-away to reveal the art underneath. this series takes a lot of time and patience to make. i'm loving the process of time passing, the layering, and the sharing of the beauty of the fog and what we throw out can have another beautiful life.

I transcribe and reveal the beauty of nature through intuitive calligraphy. Materials curated from refuse drive the approach of each project. In “Seams of the Fog”, the collage under painting is composed of seeds, junk mail, plastic, foil, and cosmetics. I bury it under layers of wax and pigment. What is hidden becomes less important than what is revealed, like fog. There is a tension between the hazy uncertainty of the surface and the intentional, well-defined seams. Besides stitching and embroidery of plastic yarns into my acrylic paintings, I also weave plast “yarns” as my canvas/ painting. It’s another experience Beneath this joy and wonder of beauty is a layer of darker anxiety I have for the environment.
