This collection continues on the theme of 'Indecipherable Texts', which resonates with the proliferation of mass communication and the increasing elusiveness of effective direct communication in relation to difficult issues. Here the 'Indecipherable Text' relates to 'Peace'. The Hebrew and Arabic words for Peace, Shalom and Salaam, are derived from a root denoting wholeness or completeness. Its significance is thus not limited to the political domain - to the absence of war and enmity -or to the social- to the absence of quarrel and strife. It ranges over several spheres and can refer in different contexts to moral values, to cosmic principles and to divine attributes. My use of metallic foils represents these contexts. These artworks evoke both East and West, the Past and the New; they suggest ancient writing surfaces and modern technology, maps and journeys. The ancient technique of Encaustic painting is a hot wax method; using a highly personal and considered approach of construction in multiple layers and extending a technique still little known in this country and currently enjoying a revival in U.S.A. I am drawn to encaustic because of its translucency and 3-dimensional quality. It is an exceptionally robust medium and examples have come down to us from Antiquity. This multi layering also corresponds to the nature of 'Peace'; incorporating the past into the present and acknowledging all of its components. The price includes a white wood tray frame.

My name is Katy Sayers Green and I am an Artist from London. For enquiries related to artwork, you may call mobile 07951 415699. My Artwork could be described as a form of Figurative Abstraction; my starting point is the real world and what is happening within it. Then at a certain point, I let the visual aspect take over. I mainly make paintings and I am particularly drawn to 3-d form. My current mediums are Digital transfer, Oil paint, Acrylic paint and Encaustic. I will bring in other materials; if I feel they are required by the subject matter. I am inspired by my experiences in life, by Nature and by people. My Artwork is informed by urgent issues of the day. My current theme is Climate Change. I am responding to the ecological effects of Climate Change; particularly Habitat loss and the erosion of our relationship with the Natural World. I am an Artist because I believe in the power of Art and that my art can create visceral reactions comparable to the profound effects of music or dance. The most important thing in my work is what I am trying to convey. I search for a visual language that resonates with the theme and which then gains an independent life of its own and with its own momentum. The finished painting becomes an object in its own right, on its own terms. It contains the power of the original intention, which can be then interpreted in different ways.
