"Sleeping Siamese" Painting

Southwick's art connects to nature, people and interior environments. She takes the essence of a natural occurrence and imbibes it with color and vibrancy. Her works involve the surface breakup. Whether the works are collages, paintings, mosaics, or prints, the liveliness comes from the application of the medium. The viewer's eyes are always forced to move over the surface, like dancing on stepping stones. Southwick also takes a subject on many journeys in several media. She will often do scores of work on a given subject. Ever since her first formal art teacher instructed her to work in a variety of media, applying them to a single theme, she has worked that way. Music, landscapes, and figures have been consistent themes.
