Slipher is a muted abstraction in tones of silver and platinum leaf, patinated with antiquing effects and rust pigment. Cracked plaster on panel, painted in a red oxide oil and overlaid with platinum leaf revealing delicate of deep colour. The wooden panel is mounted on softwood stretchers for stability, and finished on all sides so that framing is optional.

In my practice, colour, tactility and structure meets alchemy and chance. I focus very much on process; on discovering and developing unique material processes to imbue magical effects. I often work over oils with metals and plaster; gold and silver leaf, fine stone materials for texture and oil pastel crumbled into particles for raw shots of pure colour applied directly to the paint surface. In particular I enjoy rust effects - these leave a beautiful crystallised glitter on the paint surface in small areas, which is impossible to photograph, but magical in person as the light changes throughout the day. My paintings are above all sensory moments, abstractions of mood, and created for one purpose only; to give the eyes meditative pleasure. My art loves are myriad, but I paint most of all to and for music; Mahler, Stan Getz and Hiroshi Yoshimura.
