Art Description

Painting: Oil-paint, Acrylic-paint, Charcoal, Oil-pastel, Emulsion on Canvas, Wood.

This bold, colourful painting was inspired by the natural phenomenon of solar flares, observed as flashes of brightness against the sun's surface.

The sun has been painted as a discreet area of intense colour and pattern, with aspects flaring up into negative white space. I wanted to explore contrasts of mark-making intensity, and the idea of the sun as a hot and intensely coloured mass with solar flares shooting up from it's surface.
