ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Still life is my favourite subject. I found an old blue ladle on one of the flee markets. I thought it could make a great object for one of my paintings. Then I wanted a bit more colour in this picture so I added a new bright red mug. But still the picture wasn't complete. At this point I thought about adding something to make the whole thing more interesting. So the bottle appeared and lovely distortions too. A little tomato eventually has balanced the composition.

Galina Zastava was born in Moscow, Russia. She worked as a financial analyst in a Moscow bank. In 2005 she got married and moved to England. She couldn’t find a job in England and had a lot of time on her hands. Eventually her husband bought her a few books with drawing and painting lessons. Then, because of her husband’s job they went to Mexico for two years. She had even more time and started painting and drawing more seriously. She found lessons on Internet of old masters painting technique and was completely fascinated by it. On return to England she joined Chelmsford Art Society and took part in their meetings and exhibitions. She tried a lot of different mediums, but two years ago she discovered oil and realized it was just for her. Her favourite subject is Still life although she painted portraits, animals and landscapes too.
