About The Artwork

Street Artists and Writers inspired the work of this piece. I hope that the viewer will take away from this piece that street art adds to our landscapes and that it does not live forever. In this painting it does. I have been fascinated by the work of these artists for a long time. Sometimes the street art is all I see.

Jay Mason (born: September 1975) grew up in the small town of Osceola, Indiana. Jay's formative years were spent in the apartment above Mason Printing (family business). After high school he enrolled in Architectural Engineering courses at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. This direction was not creative enough for him and he opted on a hiatus from school to begin working at his family's print shop. He also began courses at Indiana University of South Bend exploring his more creative side. Jay moved to Seattle, Washington in 1996. Seattle made him feel at home and he began to explore in acrylics and oils .In 1999, Jay traveled to Europe. Living in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Jay traveled through Europe visiting cities such as Paris, London, Brussels, and Prague. He saw as many master works as he could, studying different techniques and learning how to apply them to his own paintings. Jay enrolled in painting and drawing classes at Seattle Central College in 2001 turning his attention and focus back to learning the fundamentals. In early 2001, Jay moved into the 619 Western Building in Pioneer Square, the largest work only artist building on the west coast at the time. The 4 years Jay spent working in the 619 building were some the most prolific of his early emerging career. Jay current lives with his wife Brandy in the greater Seattle area where he works out of his home studio. Jay is an American Artist who devotes his time to perfecting his craft as a painter. He frequently collaborates with the greater Seattle Arts community and the vibrant Seattle Art scene.
