About The Artwork

Sparrows chirping in the bamboo grove. Ink on square sheet of rice paper. Birds are a very common traditional motive in Japanese art, often with interesting symbolic interpretations. Sparrows were traditionally seen as symbols of prosperity, rich harvests, good fortune for the entire family. For this reason they are often pictured as fluffy and plump birds, as if enjoying the good times. In modern interpretation, cheerful sparrows are considered to be messengers of joy and happiness, as well as good luck. Bamboo also has many positive meanings, such as strength and resilience. It symbolises good luck, moral integrity and strong character. The quiet beauty of bamboo has been admired for centuries in poetry, art, and calligraphy. The painting is signed, sealed with my personal seal, wet-mounted on backing rice paper and ready to be framed or mounted on a silk scroll. Please use acid-free adhesives when framing. It is manually cut, please leave a few mm error margin for dimensions. Colours may differ due to differences in devices.

Canadian artist based in Malta. I studied oil painting in the South Studio Atelier in Malta. The Atelier follows the great traditions of the Florence Academy of Art, so do I. The transience of life pushes me to create, to capture the moments of beauty I see all around. I also studied Asian art, in China, Canada, and in Japan. Fragile rice paper gives a different feeling. It's the best canvas to express the complex simplicity of ink painting. I am using centuries-old Japanese recipe to mount my own artwork.
