About The Artwork

Emei spring fog, 138x68, chinese traditional painting on pure coton paper. I always lose directions in Emei Mountain, only seeing green forests in the fog. Tall trees witness the history and moss-covered step stones link mountains. I take a break on each step to appreciate the painting-like landscape. Having my clothes wet by the rain, I hear the temple bell rings in the cloud.

Wang Han, originally named Wang Youchuan, with pseudonyms Prince, Woodworker and Orchid Pavilion Master, was born in 1946. His family was originally from Jinzhai, Anhui Province. Mr. Wang Han was graduated from Chengdu Art School, where he studied directly from Mr. Zhou Lunyuan, a master of traditional Chinese landscape painting. In his fifty years of Chinese landscape painting, Mr. Wang Han takes serious attitude towards study and pays special attention to inherit the traditions of Chinese culture and Chinese painting. When studied under Mr. Zhou Lunyuan, he learned lessons from traditional Chinese landscape paintings from Song and Yuan Dynasties to modern times, and gradually formed his personal artistic style of being bold, thick and fresh, with great stress on the poetic meaning. From his works, you can see the solid traditional skills, deep cultural deposits, the pursuit of artistic conception, the perfect combination of nature and individual thinking, etc. In particular, he excels at painting pines which are standing proudly in the world or flying full of vigor and life by bold and forceful strokes. Therefore, Mr. Wang Han was reputed as “the King of Pines”. In the artistic creation, Mr. Wang Han has laid more emphasis on “feeling”. Whether travel across famous mountains and great rivers, or wander around the forest streams and countryside cottages, he always keeps observing and experiencing carefully while absorbs the natural aura and essence, and then reproduces the natural objects with traditional Chinese landscape painting skills, to stimulate audience’s understanding and sympathetic response. Mr. Wang Han, was once appointed as the dean of Chengdu Jincheng Art Academy, and the director of Sichuan Arts and Crafts Association Specialty Committee. His hundreds of work pieces have been collected by domestic and foreign museums, galleries, collectors and published by the mainstream media. His publication works includes "A Collection of Wang Han’s Landscape Paintings " and "Wang Han’s Selected Fan Paintings" etc.
