On any question you may turn to the painter Konstantin Golovin: ________________________________________ The main thing about landscape is that this genre provides an artist with a complete freedom to choose his theme, treatment of colors, composition, and dimensional structure of the canvas. Sketching from nature is essential, because it would be useless to “invent” sky, trees, water reflections, dry grass, houses, boats, etc… Such work is doomed to failure, because it is emotionless and unable to move the viewer. I regard sketches from nature as a valuable material to be used in painting a landscape-composition, a landscape-picture. It is essential that a landscape connotes some message. A landscape helps people relive the memories of their childhood and youth, experience nostalgic feelings, and conveys the unique natural features which sometimes disappear in a matter of minutes or even seconds. The main principle is to have confidence in one’s feelings, follow one’s path, use one’s findings, rather than to rely upon experts’ opinions and to humor tastes of mediocrity. I believe that a landscape should reflect personality traitsof an artist, and convey chaste and austere character of wildlife.
