About The Artwork

This piece has D rings and wire on the back for easy hanging. It is a 3D piece as it is canvas that has been cut into over board. I make my own oil paints by sourcing pigments from local natural sustainable materials. I have been mud-larking in the Thames, collecting pigments to later be made into a paint. I enjoy playing with the idea of the ‘ready-made’. The process of making my paints is long and vigorous but to be able to say I made my work from scratch without relying on others to have it at my disposal. My work being sustainable and eco-friendly is so important to me and for the future of this planet. My work explores the idea of liminal spaces: airports, hallways, streets. It is the non-space between 2 absolute spaces. That period of time between Christmas and New Years. A space that feels all so familiar yet completely indistinguishable. In this place you can’t apply existing logic and organisation, that is where change happens. Societal constraints don’t limit you, you can truly live within your own realm and explore yourself fully. Liminal spaces are inevitable within life. It’s within these spaces that amazing things can happen.

b. 1998 Port Alfred, South Africa My work should be considered as a form of environmental activism. I don’t buy single-use artificially made products but rather re-use materials that would have otherwise gone to waste. My work is a living piece of art, it will change and evolve over time - this should be seen as beautiful as nothing in this world is static, but constantly growing and changing. The art will grow with you, allowing self reflection. IMG_2866.jpeg All of my work is connected by the idea of space. Personal space, public space and everything in between. How they make us feel which then impacts how we act in these spaces.
