"There are a lot of weird things happening in this painting. But there is something off about it that it may take you a while to observe it and find out. He tries to figuratively describe different states of mind in a surreal composition and mannerist form. The state of mind affects the body and how it reacts to situations and different things. It's like a broad range of psychology put in a single painting. If you look closely and observe patiently, you understand several things going on in this painting. One thing about a good art is that it puts different viewers through different perspectives and subjects them to a wide range of thoughts and that's what the artist is trying to do here also. He created the painting with the title ; state of mind" without a description and left the viewers to unravel a lot of mysteries in it. To me, the painting is divided into two sections containing 5 people in each section and a central person in a very awkward position which was actually painting upside down. If you observe the pressure on the linen of the middle person, you'll notice that the person is actually meant to be painted with heads up. But why did the artist paint it that way?. Another thing here is that, if you gradually look at the direction of flow of the linen or clothing, from the right of the painting to the left of the painting, it reads ; M-I-N-D " The number of persons in the painting is an odd number which signifies imbalance, an unstable state of mind.
