A still, foggy dawn down at the bay; a tri-colored heron drops down and chooses his vantage point for fishing-- a perfect perch in the middle of a backwater, a perfectly triangular rock. Not a breath of a breeze, the bay a mirror, he stands, waiting and watching. Occasionally, his reptilian golden eye blinks, but there is no other sign that he is not a well-placed sculpture. Patience and stillness, from him and from the artist-photographer, both awaiting the moment. And suddenly it comes: the long neck darts out, and a fine silver breakfast wriggles in the long beak before sliding down that throat. The water ripples spread and quiet, and just like that, utter stillness once more. Until next time.

Bronle Crosby is a painter of natural world realism with underlying hints of abstraction. Artistically, her goal is to invoke calm and contemplation via her serene paintings of birds, bubbles, and water scenes. She paints focused natural histories and close-up corners of the big picture of life, in rich subtle colors and painterly detail. Her portraits capture the personality and essence of her subject with the same level of sensitivity and craft as all her works, regardless of subject matter. When not in her studio creating new works, Crosby teaches painting and drawing at several San Diego locations, and is also on the board of ArtReach San Diego. Crosby’s work is included in many public collections, including The City of Coronado, Whitman College, and Rancho Valencia Resort. Her paintings are also held in private collections worldwide. In addition to the artist’s solo shows, Crosby’s work has been included in several museum exhibitions throughout California.
