Allen Jones, an abstract painter of profound cosmic inspirations and dynamic flair, was born in the storied Mississippi river town of Alton, Illinois. His early years, though marked by the instability of a broken family, saw the blossoming of his artistic fervor, often nurtured under the steady guidance of his grandmother. From painting on signs, canvas, and t-shirts in his formative years, Jones' talent and passion for art were apparent. Jones had a nomadic childhood, shuttled between relatives while his parents contested his custody. During these tumultuous years, his grandmother served as his unwavering rock, providing a sanctuary where his artistic talents could flourish. It was a day before his twentieth birthday when he made the resolute commitment to become the best artist he could be—a decision that would steer his creative journey. His grandmother, with her part-Indian heritage and penchant for painting, undoubtedly influenced him, laying a foundational connection to the world of art. Allen's formal education in the arts took him through reputable institutions, including Alton Sr. High Fine Art, Lewis and Clark University, St. Louis School of Design, and the School of Associated Arts in St. Paul. This extensive training carved out the technical skills and artistic sensibilities that define his work today. In 1976, Jones relocated to Minneapolis, MN, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his artistic career. Two years later, his work graced the cover of The Minnesota Tour Guide and was selected for the City of St. Paul's Christmas card, achievements that propelled his visibility in the art world. The intrinsic allure of color and its myriad harmonies deeply inspire his work. Fascinated by the virtually infinite spectrum available to artists, Jones aims to explore and capture this wealth of hues in his paintings. Known for his intuitive approach, Jones's creative process is an adventure of spontaneity and reaction. By limiting his palette and mixing numerous hues, he creates a unique journey with each brushstroke, never quite certain where the painting will take him. This process imbues his work with qualities of mystery and beauty, offering viewers an entrancing experience. His technique, developed through years of experimentation and training, is distinctive for its dynamic interplay of line, light, and color—often employing knife, brush, and drip to achieve a harmonious balance.
