An original painting, made with 24k gold leaves, crushed minerals (natural and synthetic), oyster shells and Japanese ink on Japanese paper, mounted on a wood panel. Natural colors include precious and semi-precious stones. Because these substances have unique chemical and physical properties, every artwork has unique characteristics and a sense of connection to the Earth. It has a matt and rich sand-like texture. What originally inspired Mitsumori to paint were the cityscapes of Jaisalmer, India. The beautiful cityscapes reminded her of jewelry that retains its shine even after a thousand years. Mitsumori felt that the streets reflected the characteristics of the historical and cultural backgrounds of the people who lived there. Presenting the sceneries seen through her eyes in an art form. In mint condition, Certificate of Authenticity included and calligraphy seal in front, hand-signed at the back. Sold unframed and ready to hang (eye bolt and string mounted at the back). Artist: Maria Mitsumori Style: Mineral painting Size: H80 × W65 x D2cm (31.5 x 25.6 x 0.79 in) Year: 2019

Mitsumori works in the traditional Japanese art form of mineral painting. She lived and studied at international boarding schools in Switzerland and Hong Kong for 15 years before returning to Japan. Her global upbringing and Japanese roots heavily influence how she sees the world and inform the thematic tendencies in her work, most notably in the ideas of transcending borders and coexisting diversity. Mitsumori considers painting as a tangible way to preserve the abstract, drawing upon the early use of mineral painting as a form of preservation. Creating and showcasing artworks nationally and internationally, Mitsumori has exhibited in London, Dubai, Paris, Singapore, and Tokyo. Her multiple award-winning work has been featured in international exhibitions and is part of public collections.
