From Unseen Power I am fascinated by something with power. The power is inherent in the object rather than the shape of the force appearing on the surface. Taking the ocean as an example, it is not the appearance of a broken wave strongly hitting a cliff, but the weight and size of the sea with its waves, the dark color that draws gaze in invisible places, the force to retreat and the impulses that jump into it gather to make me feel unbearable. In my drawing containing the expression of the inner side, the motions and sounds of children, ruins like Dolmen, Machu Picchu make this feeling. The power that I feel is not a noble atmosphere or aura like an aura but is similar to the condensed life force which can blow out at any time even if it is not exposed immediately. In an attempt to express the purpose of expression to pursue with the words of Francis Bacon, "I will try to do something rather than trying to say something in the end." I would like to express and act the power I feel though 3D form and drawing rather than simply reproducing. My recent research and works are based on the relationship between the act of drawing and making. A few years ago, I found a set of crayons from my childhood by chance and started to draw a series of drawings and developed them into metal crafts works. Since then I proceeded a study about applying the unconstrained expression found from the drawings to a different material, metals. As a result, I developed a technique transferring the drawing lines to solid surface of metals using plasma arc. The spontaneity gained from the act of drawing directly onto the metal is what sets this technique apart from other existing etching techniques. An intaglio line which is a feature of works is an expression (hereinafter referred to as the plasma drawing) utilizing a plasma cutting machine as a drawing tool. Unlike the attribute of metalworking which is relatively easy to modify, the plasma drawing can not be modified once it is expressed on metal. For this reason, the spirit of one stroke (一筆揮之) is an important value to pursue. However, it is very difficult to boldly draw lines that can not be corrected for a metalwork made with long-time spirit. Rather than being free, the worries of the mind and the atrophy of the body lead. For this reason, skillful skill and lots of practice are required for unconstrained expression. Plasma drawings is practice(修), endeavor(功), ability(能) to me.
