Sunday afternoon by the river Painting

Major influence of this work is within evoking a certain mood through New York City landscape which becomes imprinted in a dweller's mind. At the same time the work is a play with a tradition of painting and echoes French painting's narratives from the turn of nineteenth century which marks a beginning of modernity. By this play with a tradition the painting connects with it and picks up on a description of the narratives from the last century in a conjunction with a modern day experience. Thus by rendering a bare and monotonous cityscape the work indicates an experience of voidness and post modernist reality. The work renders typical New York City landscape known from tourism's advertisement shots and known from popular culture and painting. And by employing the popular motives the work aims at contradicting and challenging stereotypical perception of the "capital of the world" with the experience of it within the deeper perspective and thus portraying the city afresh.The method applied is working within layers of paint and thus constructing certain visual effect.
