Marta Artacho (Madrid, 1971), is a Spanish artist based in London developing her own style, somewhere between geometric abstraction and pop art. Through the repetition of two-dimensional geometric patterns, the application of the dotted technique and the use of vivid colours applied to natural materials, Marta creates an organic and textured vision of the abstract in which colours do not mix, except in the viewer’s retina. A self-taught artist, she began her career creating handicraft pieces using bamboo and other canes found on the beach. Born and raised in the Costa del Sol (Southern Spain), Marta’s influence stems from the landscapes and lights of this coastal region, where she spent most of her life. Her quest for her own artistic voice began by experimenting with techniques such as pyro-engraving and the transformation of accidents that occur while working with recycled materials into an expressive resource. The result of this journey is a contemplation of two panoramas that begin by spanning an Impressionistic expression of light that uses geometric elements, sinewy lines and curves as scenery, only to advance towards a more precise pop art whereby the icons on display are the emblematic bulls of Spain and those found in Marta’s new home, London.
