About The Artwork

About the Painting Sunset – Sunset in the performance of the Russian artist is an amazing palette knife painting, where brushstrokes are bold, and a unique atmosphere of transparency and lightness is created, as if radiating sunlight is seen through every stroke, giving hope that the morning sun will rise again. About the Artist Moscow famous artist Alexey Gladkikh was born in 1947. He studied at the art and technical specialized school, and then worked as an artist for decorative painting. According to Alexey Gladkikh, the classes in the workshops of famous Moscow artists such as D. G. Sobolev (K. Korovin’s disciple), a reputable connoisseur of classical painting and drawing E. I. Onufriev, and theatrical designer E. V. Zotova (V. Kandinsky’s pupil) were his main originative school. The artist had been substantially academically oriented up to 1979. But the possibility to express his own inner state through the modulation of the execution (realism, cubism, Fauvism, abstractionism) became already important at that period of time. Since 1975, Alexei Gladkikh participated in Moscow avant-garde exhibitions on Malaya Gruzinskaya street. Since 1986, he headed the creative Association "Sintez" in Moscow. He took part in the organization of unions of artists called "Sokolniki" and "Queen of spades". He travelled a lot around Russian cities and villages, depicting images of the Russian antiquity in his works, and perfecting the pictorial series "The Russian landscape". In 1991-1992 he worked by contract in the United States. In 1996-1999 he performed a pictorial series of compositionally and philosophically oriented works. Later on the figurative was graphically reflected in black-and-white in a more clear spiritual conception. Since 2000, he has been living and working in the suburbs of Moscow in his garden and wooded privacy. The artist's works are scattered across the Russian and Western private collections and galleries. In particular, his paintings and drawings are in the collections of E. I. Globenko, Moscow; V. and S. Popovs, Moscow; John Matlock, US Ambassador in Russia (1987-1991); H. Barla, the Ambassador of Israel in Russia (1990-s); Gallery Zelie di Rosa, Italy; The Museum Jane Voorhees Zimmerli ,USA. Oil painting on canvas, 1992.
