About The Artwork

The Caleuche, the legend goes, it is a ship that sails and roam the seas of the island of ChiloƩ and southern channels. Is manned by powerful witches, and on dark nights is brightly lit. It has lighting and red sails, to go manned by witches. It is hidden in the middle of a dense fog that he produces. Never browse daylight. If by chance someone other than witch approaches, it becomes a simple floating log; sometimes becomes a rock or any other object and becomes invisible. Her crew become sea lions or acuatic birds. They ensure that crewmembers have one leg to walk and the other is folded back, so walk by leaps and bounds. All are idiots and forgetful to ensure secrecy of what happens on board. Do not look at the Caleuche because the crew punish to the person who do as so, turning their twisted mouth, head back or killing them suddenly, by witchcraft. This vessel sailing near the coast and when it seizes a person takes to visit cities of the seabed and brings immense treasures, inviting her to join them on the sole condition of not disclosing what he has seen. Otherwise, the crew of Caleuche kill him on the first occasion they met again with him. All who drown are collected by the Caleuche, which has the power to submarine navigation appear at the precise moment where you would need to collect the shipwrecked and save them in his bosom, which serves as their eternal home.

Painter and goldsmith born in Chile, graduated from Fine Arts. I have always felt attracted by images and the idea that everything can be created from their compilation. From this impression and from the recycling of images, I started painting different scenes, fictional scenarios, colourful and provocative, with the intention to trigger spectators to build a personal and creative process under their own experience in relationship to my work. According to this, my proposal follows an appropriationist line, in which the creation process is conceived from a rich mixture of languages. Once images are decontextualized, a digital procedure is applied in order to assemble them in a pictorial collage. The appropriationism and the extraction of the authorship give life to new and original images, implying an outcome that goes from the reflection of the art to a visual pleasure. This, of course, modifies the sense given by the original authors. The intention behind this is to transmit a new kind of plastic and conceptual experience, obtained from the world of publicity, history of art, and literature. The result obtained from the visual discourse is articulated from a variety of little fragments that come from the intervened mass-media, mostly with a digital nature, delivering as a final outcome the resemantization of the artistic work.
