I was once again on the road with my friend Jessica, somewhere on Venice Boulevard coming from the beach, going toward downtown when the shining lights from “Tabu Tattoo” jumped into my eyes. To get this neon sign to glow on paper was a new challenge. I hadn’t started with my painting, when my friend Scott got in a holdup on a Saturday morning in a beauty supply. Everyone had to get down on the floor and all the cash was taken. The robber fled, thank God nobody was hurt. This shows how desperate people already are. For a handful of dollars they break all Tabus! To showcase the craziness of this behavior I picked “Tabu Tattoo”. In a bank you kind of can count on an assault but not in a beauty supply or even when you go to the bakery in the morning to get some rolls! The painting radiates a calm but deceitful peace for me. Only if one takes a close look one will see that the only person in the painting is carrying a gun and doing a totally useless assault on a tattoo studio.

Gabriele Prill moved in October 1985 to Los Angeles. There she started as an art teacher for children at the Westside Art Center in Santa Monica. In 1990 she worked as art director for the movie "The Winged Cage", directed by Fu Ding Chen. In 1992 she was a founding member of "Hello Artichoke", the first collective art gallery in Los Angeles. Gabriele Prill worked as a „Wardrobe Supervisor“ for the 1994 film "Destiny Turns On The Radio" directed by Jack Baran and starring Quentin Tarantino. In 1995 she moved back to Aachen where she currently works as an artist and freelance graphic artist.
