ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is another expressionistic piece inspired particularly by the paintings of Edvard Munch, particularly his paintings of his ill sister and bedroom despair. The television is a contemporary symbol that cannot save our ill sick fellow. This painting appeared in my 2018 exhibit, Secondhand Smoke, at Mono8 Gallery in Manila, Philippines.

Timothy Brian Dodd (born Mink Shoals, West Virginia, USA) is a self-taught, American painter, poet, and writer of literary fiction with nomadic and exploratory tendencies. He has traveled widely across the globe, and spent extended time in places such as Chile, Republic of Georgia, and Zimbabwe. Tim currently continues to display his artwork at various galleries and exhibitions in Manila, Philippines. Stylistically, Tim's artwork is primarily Expressionistic, often with swirling or choppy brushstrokes. He strongly favors bright colors which often belie content typically considered gloomy, and his canvases explore relationships between individuals, to self, and to the inexplicable and miraculous. With a tendency toward irony and the unexpected, Tim's images combine a humor and seriousness that asks for multiple viewpoints from those examining his work. In addition to painting, Tim is a published literary writer and poet. His first collection of short stories, Fissures...and Other Stories, was published in 2019 by Bottom Dog Press. His second collection of short stories, Men in Midnight Bloom (Cowboy Jamboree Press), is forthcoming in 2022, as is his first collection of poetry, Modern Ancient (High Window Press) and a chapbook of fictions, Mortality Birds (Southernmost Press). Tim has also published fiction and poetry widely in literary magazines throughout the United States, as well as selected places in the U.K., Ireland, Australia, the Netherlands, and Iceland.
