"Reflective, distorted surfaces create multiple layers of refraction and perspectival perversion in the paintings of Ofill Echevarria. His work appears to produce the effect of camera optics manipulating the photographic veracity of figures in motion, architectural reflections, and fragments of urban life" (Carol Damian, 2005). --- Ofill Echevarría was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1972 and made his debut as a member of the Arte Calle (Street Art) Group in 1988, before graduating from the legendary San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in 1991. The following year he moved to Mexico City, where he lived until 2002. He currently lives and works in the city of New York, USA. --- Since his first solo show in Havana, “Plastic Industry” (1991), Ofill has exhibited individually in galleries and institutions of Mexico and Latin America, as well as in the United States: Multicultural Center - University Of Rhode Island. Kingston, RI (2000); Feinstein Providence Campus - University Of Rhode Island. Providence, RI (2012); Carriage House Center for the Arts [The Gabarron Foundation] New York, NY (2013). --- Represented by renowned Praxis International Art (Mexico), which later became Ginocchio Gallery, both in Mexico City, Ofill has participated in many international art fairs and group shows since 2001, among which are: MACO MEXICO and ZONA MACO MEXICO, Monterrey, Mexico and Mexico City, Mexico, respectively; FIA, Caracas, Venezuela; ARTBO, Bogotá, Colombia; PARC, Lima, Perú; ART MIAMI, Miami, USA; ARTEAMERICAS, Miami, USA; SCOPE MIAMI, Miami, USA; ART CHICAGO and CHICAGO CONTEMPORARY & CLASIC, both in Chicago, USA; AAF CONTEMPORARY, New York, USA; PINTA NY, New York, USA. --- His works are part of major public and private collections, among which are: Center of Development of Visual Arts in Havana; National Museum of Fine Arts of Havana; Museum of Modern Art of Mexico; Museum of Contemporary Art of Oaxaca, Mexico; National Center for the Arts, Nuevo Leon, Mexico; Merrill Lynch Foundation for the Arts, Miami, Florida; Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, California; Multicultural Center of The University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI. --- In 2013 he published his book: "El Mundo de los Vivos | The Real World" under the publishing house Un-Gyve Limited Group based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. --- Also available online (see corresponding links): (2014) Artealdia No. 145 (By Adriana Herrera): http://issuu.
