My name is Takuya Inoue, also known as Takuya-Inoue-Higa “Higa” comes from my mother’s Okinawan family name, which I include to honor both sides of my heritage. I have been diagnosed with developmental disorders and schizophrenia, and my path has been shaped by both joy and struggle. About three years ago, I encountered painting for the first time in my life — and it changed everything. Art became not only a form of expression, but a way to stay alive, to understand myself, and to speak when words were not enough. I work primarily in watercolor, drawing inspiration from music, emotion, and personal philosophy. My paintings blend inner conflict with hope, exploring themes of identity, pain, resilience, and the quiet beauty that lives inside the human spirit. Through my work, I want to show that even in darkness, meaning and light can still be created — and shared. And above all, my works are not objects. They are born from my struggles, my memories, my philosophy, and the life I’ve lived. If someone wants to take one home, I want them to feel that weight and responsibility — not just buy it, but truly receive it
