The First Of Spring Painting

Inspired by my love of nature in my homeland of New Zealand a country of vast beauty. Having also lived in Canada and Seattle I became became intrigued by the shapes of birch trees in particular. Wanted to paint trees in a variety of shapes and more abstractly. Using a palette knife I am able to keep it loose and add interesting texture. I initially paint the background then come over to create the trees by pulling the knife through and revealing the palette underneath and well as the color of the trees. Looking closely you can see the variety of colors that are revealed. Contemporary painting but always based in landscape and nature.
