About The Artwork

Exploring interesting spaces inspires the artist to go into her garage and paint what she experiences. In this colorful expressive rendering the ordinary becomes extraordinary. A unique palette of hues and textural brushwork relay an experience with tools and things for the garden. Empty terracotta planters rest in front of a piece of lattice while a window gives us a view of the outdoors. Other things hang from the wall, like a spreader for fertilizer giving us further insight into what life might be like outside this space. The artist who lives her life, at the moment, without a car decided to investigate the empty space of her garage. As the weather began to cool it was a way for her to still experience the beauty of being out doors and painting "plein-air" yet not having to physically drive somewhere. This unique painting is one of a series of three which she completed this past fall. It was painted on a gallery wrapped canvas that can be framed or unframed.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
